Things You Didn’t Know About McCoy De Leon

It’s Showtime became an even better variety show when they introduced the Hashtags. Not only these men are talented, admit that they are also extremely good looking and charismatic.

McCoy had been under my radar back then but I was converted as a fan as I watch him compete in the reality television show Pinoy Big Brother. Who could have known that the beautiful face has a beautiful soul behind?

Here are some of the things you may not know about that dimpled cutie, McCoy De Leon.

EARLY LIFE                   

McCoy was born as Marc Carlos Francis de Jesus de Leon on February 20, 1995 in Tondo, Manila. His parents, Mark and Shiela also has another offspring, Shylla. McCoy got his secondary education from the San Sebastian College Recoletos. He was already enrolled for his tertiary degree at the Mapua University, with a major of Civil Engineering but he decided to focus on his career first.

CAREER BEGINNINGS


McCoy first entered showbusiness not as an actor but a dancer. He was a member of the Hashtags, an all-male dance group which regularly appears in the noon time show, It’s Showtime. McCoy was a member of that group together with other dancer turned celebrity like Jameson Blake, Ronnie Alonte, Nikko Natividad, Tom Doromal among others..

McCoy joined the reality television show Pinoy Big Borther: Lucky 7 in 2016 together with his fellow groupmate in Hashtag, Nikko Natividad.

NOTABLE WORKS

After being a finalist on the reality show, McCoy had gained more fans and more projects. Between 2017-2020, he has been appearing as a recurring role in the long running primetime television show Ang Probinsiyano as Juan Pablo Arevalo.

McCoy also appeared in the family, romance, crime, mystery, drama show The Good Son where he is one of the main leads together with Joshua Garcia, Jerome Ponce and Nash Aguas.

McCoy was also in the promising action, drama thriller 24/7. The story revolves around a mother (played by Julia Montes) who would do anything for her son Xavier. The show only had 4 episodes and had to cancel filming due to the outbreak of COVID19.

Walang Hanggang Paalam is one of McCoy’s latest work. It is his first drama series in the Kapamilya Channel. He plays a supporting role – Bernardo Salvador in this series. He worked with acting heavyweights, Paulo Avelino, Zanjoe Marudo, Arci Muñoz and Angelica Panganiban.

AWARDS AND RECOGNITION

McCoy’s dancing skills, as well as the entire Hashtag team, was recognized in the 8th PMPC Star Awards for Music, awarding the group Dance Album of the Year for their work Hashtags Album.

He then went on to win the Most Promising Loveteam with Elisse Joson at the 2017 Box Office Entertainment Awards for their work in Ang Probinsiyano. He finally proved his acting chops when he won the 34th PMPC Star Awards for Movies for his role Instalado as the Best New Movie Actor of the year.

He also topbilled the romance-thriller digital series ‘Project Feb 14’ with Jane Oineza and JC Santos.

MOVIES AND CURRENT PROJECTS

McCoy De Leon was first launched as a lead movie actor in the ToFarm Film Festival entry ‘Instalado’. Later on, him and his onscreen partner Elisse Joson were chosen as lead stars of ‘Sakaling Maging Tayo’.

Some of McCoy de Leon’s movies include Ang Panday, Sin Island, G!, The Heiress, ‘D Ninang and Block Z.

McCoy De Leon in YORME

McCoy recently appeared in the musical biographic film Yorme: The Isko Domagoso Story as Young Isko Moreno. The film was originally scheduled to be released on December 2021 but was pushed back to January 2022. It can be streamed via KTX.ph, Upstream PH, iWantTFC, TFC IPTV and Vivamax (through Vivamax Plus). Here, McCoy worked with Isko Moreno himself,  Xian Lim, Jestoni Alarcon, Tina Paner and other actors.

Puto is another of McCoy’s latest projects. It is based on the 1987 work of Leroy Salvador of the same name. It stars Herbert Bautista and McCoy. This story revolves around the life of father and son Uno and Puto, as they navigate normal life with not so normal magical powers. The show was produced by Viva Television and was aired at TV5.

McCoy is also the lead star of the Vivamax movie ‘Habangbuhay’ with reel-and-real partner Elisse Joson.

Wow what a roller coaster read that was! I’m glad that McCoy finally gets the spotlight that he deserves!
