Things You Didn’t Know About Gabby Concepcion

I have watched Gabby Concepcion in numerous roles while I was growing up. From a matinee idol, to an adult, now to a mature actor, I have seen him through various stages in his career.

Although he is nearing his 60s, he remains to be one of the bankable leading men out there. In fact, he is currently starring in the First Lady, the series spinoff of the popular series First Yaya with Sanya Lopez.

For those of you who are unaware of Gabby’s expansive career through the decades, this one is for you! Here are some of the things you may not know about Gabby Concepcion.

EARLY LIFE

Gabby was born as Gabriel Arellano Concepcion on November 5, 1964 in San Juan, Rizal, Philippines to parents Rollie Concepcion and Maria Lourdes Arellano. Gabby was educated at the Miriam College and Lincoln University, a private university in Oakland, California. He is related to the famous architect and painter Juan Arellano who was known for the Metropolitan Theater, Manila Central Post Office Building and Rizal Memorial Sports Complex.

CAREER BEGINNING

Gabby started his career in showbusiness as a commercial model in 1980. He was the endorser of Close Up toothpaste back then. As a teenager, he managed to be a prolific actor, appearing in numerous films, endorsements and modeling gigs from 1980 to 1995.

NOTABLE WORKS

Among his many notable works as a young actor was P.S. I Love You in 1981, a romance drama movie which produced a spinoff of the same name in the late 2010s. In the movie, he worked with his reel to real life partner, Sharon Cuneta. The pair appeared again in the drama romance movie My Only Love in 1982. The film showcases the idealism of a young love and stars Jackie Lou Blanco, Amalia Fuentes and Liza Lorena. Although he was very prolific in films, he was always a consistent guest in the long running weekday program Star Drama Presents.

For a while, Gabby Concepcion stepped away from the limelight, particularly after his annulment with the Mega star Sharon Cuneta. He went back to the Philippines in 2008 to rekindle his showbusiness career and has been accepted by Filipinos. His comeback television series was in ABS CBN in 2008, Iisa Pa Lamang. This melodrama romantic suspense television series also featured showbusiness heavyweights such as Claudine Barretto, Angelica Panganiban, Cherry Pie Picache and Joel Torre. He was in ABS CBN until 2011 and starred in iconic television shows such as May Bukas Pa, Dahil May Isang Ikaw and Kung Tayo’y Magkakalayo.

Gabby also have notable television series in other networks. For one, in TV5 he was in PS I Love You, from which he stars in the original movie. He was also in the fantasy horror series Cassandra: Warrior Angel.

In GMA Network, he has been a constant face in different television series. He starred opposite Carla Abellana in the romance-comedy series Because of You. This reignited his status as a bankable primetime leading man despite his age.

In 2016, he was the main protagonist and antagonist in the television drama series Ika-6 na Utos which aired until 2018. In this series he worked with Ryza Cenon and Sunshine Dizon. As we all know, the show became a household favorite due to its campy yet relatable scenes.

In 2019, he was also paired with Jennylyn Mercado in Love You Two, where he also shared some scenes with Shaira Diaz and Solenn Heussaff.

CURRENT PROJECTS

Gabby Concepcion and Sanya Lopez

Gabby recently finished the drama romance comedy First Yaya. He was the main protagonist and worked with Sanya Lopez and Maxine Medina. First Lady, is the continuation of the First Yaya series, also features Gabby Concepcion and Sanya Lopez. The show began airing February 14 and currently airs in GMA Network.

Seriously, one post is not enough to tackle all his achievements in showbusiness. With decades under his belt, it is not surprising. As a fan I am so happy to see him thriving again in the career that he dedicated his life for!
