CONSIDERED as one of the best debuts in the Kpop industry in 2014, MAMAMOO had entered the entertainment industry with a huge bang. With their debut single “Mr. Ambiguous”, the world was gifted with the quartet in June 2014.

Years after their debut, they have become known for their excellent performances in various musical field such as jazz, retro and R&B. Also, their vocal range and live performances are honey to the ears and eyes.

They recently released their 10th EP “Travel” and to commemorate this huge achievement, let us dive deep to the members of this all girl group quartet that continues to amaze us throughout the years!

Solar, or born as Kim Yong-sun on February 21, 1999 in Seoul, South Korea is the leader of the group Mamamoo. She has an older sister, named Yong-hee. She finished her university degree in Tourism from the Hanyang Women’s University. Although she originally wanted to become a flight attendant, fate has other plans. For a free gift, she sang in that promotion, until an agent for an entertainment company discovered her.

Solar, her stage name came from the musical notes, because she is supposedly in charge of reaching the high notes for the group. Solar also appeared in the popular television series “We Got Married” and she was paired with Eric Nam. The two eventually won the Best Couple awards at the 2016 MBC Entertainment Awards. She also debuted as a solo artist in April 23, 2020 with the single “Spit It Out”.

Moon Byul-Yi was born on December 22, 1992 in  Bucheon, South Korea. She has two younger sisters. When she was a kid, she originally wanted to become a vocalist, and she auditioned for being one too. Then she realized that she had a flair for rap, leading her to be one of the group’s main rapper.

More than just a good singer/rapper, she also excels in somg writing, as she wrote her lines for the song “Piano Man” and contributed to writing “Mr. Ambiguous”. Her appearances include “King of Masked Singer” as Swan and “Idol Drama Operation Team”.

Jung Whee In was born on April 17, 1995 in Jeonju, South Korea. As an only child, she lived and was raised by her grandmother. She finished her secondary education and the Wonkwang Information Arts High School. Prior to signing up with RBW (her current label), she trained with MBK Entertainment.

When not performing, she regularly appears in different shows and MVs. She appeared on the King of Masked Singer as “Half Moon” JTBC’s Secret Unnie” where she was paired with Girl’s Generation’s Hyoyeon, B1A4‘s Sandeul’s “Hey!” and MONSTA X‘s “Ex Girl”.

Hwasa or Ahn Hye Jin was born on July 23, 1995 in Jeonju, South Korea. She has two older sisters. Hwasa also graduated from the Wonkwang Information Arts High School, same school with Whee In. Even though she is the group’s maknae (youngest member), she is often mistaken as the eldest due to her mature appearance and her impressive husky vocals.

Due to her unique voice, she collaborated with other singers in their tracks: Phantom’s “Fingernail”, Baechigi’s “Boy Jump” and VRomance’s “SHE”. Apart from having great vocals, she also has flair in song writing, as she wrote and composed “My Heart/I Do Me” on Mamamoo’s first mini-album, “Hello”.  She loves to cook and listening to jazz music.

There you have it friends, the four unique and spectacular women that make up the girl group Mamamoo. I highly suggest you spend some time listening to their tracks or watching their videos, as they do have great contents.

If you have some time, you can watch their reality show “MooMoo Trip” where they showcased their hilariousness and funny antics.  MooMoo, let’s go! Enjoy their new songs “Aya” and “Dingga”!
